Massage and Reflexology for stressed or exhausted women
Stress can be a huge explosion, leaving you in pieces. Or it can be a slow, persistent drip, drip, drip wearing you down. Feeling exhausted and joyless without even knowing why.
Stress is a normal and unavoidable part of life. Especially for women in their midlife years - because we absorb every one else’s stresses as well as our own. But there’s a limit to how much it’s possible for your body and mind to cope with before it goes on strike in some way. If you’re regularly experiencing some of this…
- Angry or anxious feelings
- Racing thoughts and insomnia
- Feeling low or flat
- Digestive problems
- Aches and pain, particularly in your neck, shoulders or chest
- Headaches
- Skin, weight or menstrual cycle changes
- Weight changes
…it’s likely your body is screaming at you to do something.
For many women who have been caring for and putting others first, midlife is the time when there’s finally space to start thinking about you. Terri Hanson Mead
None of us were meant to live with excessive stress long term. Personally, I believe capitalism and the patriarchy has a lot to answer for. But before we can reform the system, we need to restore ourselves. You need to pay attention to what your body and mind is telling you.
Massage and reflexology are both practices that have been around for millennia to ease stress, and other health problems. They work in slightly different ways, and are different but equally nourishing experiences in the treatment room. Both relax your nervous system, calm your body and mind, can help to ease physical symptoms and leave you feeling better equipped to cope with (and perhaps say no to) the stresses life brings.
Reflexology for stressed women
Reflexology works by applying pressure to reflex points on your feet. These points correspond to different organs and parts of your body: by working with your feet I am able to help the rest of your body come back to equilibrium. It’s a whole body, internal treatment, through which I pay particular attention to where stress is showing up for you, while working to bring the whole of your body into balance.
Reflexology is an ancient practice, but it’s also been validated by research to benefit your sleep, sense of wellbeing, mood, and to release tension. So it’s a fantastic tool to support your body in letting go of stress.

Holistic massage for stressed women
A holistic massage uses various strokes and manipulation on your body for therapeutic effect. ‘Holistic’ means whole, so while we may choose to focus on certain areas of your body, the massage works to support your overall health and wellbeing.
Hands-on massage improves your body’s circulation, reduce stiffness and helps to down regulate your nervous system. Regular massage can also help to improve your energy, mood, sleep and immunity, as well as ease the muscular aches and pains associated with feeling stressed.
In consultation with you, I can incorporate aromatherapy and hot stones into your massage. Both are fantastic therapeutic tools for relaxation and healing. In an aromatherapy massage we’ll agree a blend that allies with your therapeutic goals: whether that’s to feel more energised, relaxed, cleansed, or something else! And hot stones deepen the reach of therapeutic touch, working with your muscles to help relax and ease tension. They also feel absolutely heavenly

“Just had a wonderful massage with Debbie. I was originally booked in for reflexology (which I also highly recommend), but my back and shoulders were in desperate need of attention. An hour later I feel in alignment again and totally relaxed.
I love Debbie’s flexible and genuine caring approach.” Judith

Reflexology or Massage: which one’s for you?
Many new clients ask me whether they should go for reflexology or massage. There’s no quick answer, it really is up to you! Both are powerful gateways to release and relaxation. Both work holistically to promote healing in all of your body.
Here are questions to help you decide:
- Would you prefer your treatment clothed, or do you like hands-on body work?
- Would you like your treatment to deal with areas of tension at a distance, or directly?
- Would you find it uncomfortable to lie down for a treatment, or does that relax you?
In general terms, if you prefer the first option, reflexology is a good place to start, whereas if you prefer the second, try massage. I’m happy to discuss in more detail when you get in touch.
